Local care

Hydrotherapy for Run-O-Waters residents.

Weekends in Run-O-Waters tend to mean junior sport, and weekdays tend to mean a short run into town — it's only about 12 km, roughly 18 minutes, along the western edge of Goulburn, which makes hydrotherapy easy to fit around school pickups and training schedules. For acreage families managing a recurring back strain from lifting or towing, or a parent easing back into exercise after surgery, the pool session offers a way to load the body without the impact of a gym floor.

We also see close-in commuters using hydrotherapy for chronic lower back pain that flares whenever land-based exercise ramps up too fast. Because the drive is short, a hydrotherapy program is easier to sustain here than in the more distant surrounding towns — weekly sessions are realistic without eating into the rest of the day.

Getting here

The drive in from Run-O-Waters.

Run-O-Waters sits on Goulburn's western fringe, about 12 km from the clinic and roughly 18 minutes away via the local roads west of Goulburn. Our clinic is at 37 Ross Street in the centre of Goulburn, with parking on site — an easy trip for a first assessment or a standing block of appointments.

What we treat

What Run-O-Waters patients see us for.

Hydrotherapy is physio in the pool, run with the same clinical thinking as on land. Buoyancy takes weight off the joints, the warmth eases muscle guarding, and water resistance scales with how fast you move — so people can load and move in ways a gym floor won't allow. It's run by an AHPRA-registered physio with extra water-based training.

Common questions

Questions we get asked a lot.

  • Is hydrotherapy realistic as a regular program from Run-O-Waters?

Yes — at around 12 km and 18 minutes via the western edge of town, it's one of the shorter drives to our clinic, so weekly or twice-weekly sessions are manageable alongside school and work commitments.

  • Do we need a referral to start hydrotherapy for a teenager's sports injury?

No referral is needed for private-pay sessions — you can book directly. If you want to use NDIS or a Medicare-funded plan, a referral or plan approval needs to be in place first.

  • I can't swim — does that rule out hydrotherapy?

No. Pool physio runs in chest-to-shoulder-depth warm water with the physio in the water alongside you — you don't need to swim. If standing in water itself isn't safe or doesn't suit you, we prescribe an equivalent land program instead. The pool-or-land call is made at the first, land-based assessment.

  • Is the first appointment in the pool?

No — the first appointment is on land at the clinic. We take a history, do a full physical check, and work out whether the pool is the right place to start. The pool sessions that follow are supervised by the same physio, dosed to your case.
