How it runs

One plan, staged from first day to full strength.

Rehabilitation here runs as one continuous plan rather than a string of unrelated appointments. It starts with a physiotherapy assessment — what was injured or operated on, what the surgeon or specialist has set out, what you need to get back to, and where you are today. From that comes a written plan with stages and the markers for moving between them.

The early phase is usually physiotherapy: settling pain and swelling, restoring range and basic control, and protecting whatever is healing. As things settle, the work shifts to graded loading — rebuilding strength, balance and capacity — and that longer build-back is often led by an exercise physiologist, who takes the program from the clinic gym through to real-world demands like stairs, lifting, running or a full shift at work. Where standing or loading on land is still too sore, hydrotherapy lets us work the joint in warm water first.

Progress is measured against the plan at set reviews, the load is stepped up as you respond, and your GP, surgeon, case manager or plan manager gets the reports they need along the way. The aim isn't just to be pain-free — it's to be back to the thing you were doing before, with the strength to keep doing it.

Common questions

Questions we get asked a lot.

  • Do I need a referral to start rehabilitation?

No — you can book directly as a private patient. A referral or plan is only needed for funded pathways: a GP Chronic Disease Management plan for Medicare rebates, or the paperwork for WorkCover, CTP, DVA or NDIS. After surgery, your surgeon's post-op protocol is the one document worth bringing.

  • How soon after surgery should rehab start?

Usually as soon as your surgeon clears it — often within the first one to two weeks. Early, well-dosed movement generally leads to better outcomes than waiting, and we work to the surgeon's protocol so the timing and load are right for the procedure you've had.

  • How long does a rehab program take?

It depends on the injury or surgery. A straightforward sprain might be a few weeks; a joint replacement or ACL reconstruction runs across months in staged blocks. We set a realistic timeline at the first assessment and review it at agreed milestones rather than booking an open-ended block.

  • Is rehabilitation covered by WorkCover, CTP or the NDIS?

Yes, where you're eligible. Physiotherapy and exercise physiology for rehabilitation are funded under WorkCover (workplace injuries), CTP (motor-accident injuries), DVA and the NDIS, and Medicare can rebate eligible visits under a GP plan. Tell us the pathway when you book and we'll handle the approvals and reports.
