Local care
Speech pathology for Run-O-Waters residents.
Eighteen minutes in from the western edge of town — about 12 kilometres — is close enough that a weekly appointment doesn't compete with school pick-up or Saturday sport the way it does further out. That matters for stuttering treatment: the Lidcombe program for younger children and the Camperdown program for older kids and teenagers both rely on regular, closely spaced sessions.
On acreage and lifestyle blocks around Run-O-Waters, we also see plenty of speech sound problems and pronunciation difficulties in preschoolers before school starts, alongside early language delay in toddlers who aren't yet talking the way an older sibling did.
With a population of around 600 and a short run in from the western fringe, keeping up a standing program is genuinely manageable for Run-O-Waters families, not a once-a-term event.

Common questions
Questions we get asked a lot.
How often would a Run-O-Waters family need to drive in for the Lidcombe program?
Weekly sessions are standard early on. At about 18 minutes and 12 kilometres from Run-O-Waters, that's manageable for most families, and visits usually space out to fortnightly once a child is progressing well.
Do we need a referral for a speech pathology assessment?
No referral is needed to book privately. A GP referral is only required if you want to claim through a Medicare Chronic Disease Management plan, or if NDIS or DVA funding applies to your situation.
My child is two and not yet talking — is it too early to come in?
No. The evidence for early intervention with late talkers under three is among the strongest in the field. We work out where your child sits against typical milestones, look for any warning signs underneath, and set up a parent-coaching program. Many under-threes respond to a short course of coaching alone.
How do we access speech pathology on the NDIS?
We see plan-managed and self-managed participants for both kids and adults. Sessions cover assessment, therapy, communication-device work, and the reports your plan reviewer needs. Bring your plan or plan manager's details when you book, and we coordinate with OT, the school, and the rest of the team so it reads as one piece of work.
