Local care

Speech pathology for Bungonia residents.

A fall on a farm track or a knock taken out near the national park doesn't always show up as a physical injury first — sometimes it's speech that slows, or words that don't come out the way they used to. Bungonia's outdoor and property work brings us adults needing communication reassessed after exactly that kind of knock, alongside swallowing checks where eating or drinking has become harder.

With around 470 people spread across farms and rural blocks, and Jerrara Road running about 37 minutes and 42 kilometres into town, most Bungonia households plan the visit rather than treat it as a quick errand. We work around that with clear review spacing, so a standing program doesn't mean an unpredictable string of trips.

We also see toddlers and preschoolers from the district for early language delay and speech sound problems, alongside reading and writing difficulties once they reach school age.

Common questions

Questions we get asked a lot.

  • Do we need a referral to have communication reassessed after a farm or outdoor injury?

Not to book privately — you can come straight to us. A GP referral is needed only if you want a Medicare Chronic Disease Management rebate, or if the injury is being managed through a DVA or NDIS pathway.

  • Is the 37-minute drive from Bungonia worth it for a single swallowing assessment?

Most patients find one thorough in-person assessment worthwhile, since swallowing safety can't be judged reliably by phone. At around 42 kilometres via Jerrara Road, we aim to make that first visit as complete as possible.

  • My child is two and not yet talking — is it too early to come in?

No. The evidence for early intervention with late talkers under three is among the strongest in the field. We work out where your child sits against typical milestones, look for any warning signs underneath, and set up a parent-coaching program. Many under-threes respond to a short course of coaching alone.

  • How do we access speech pathology on the NDIS?

We see plan-managed and self-managed participants for both kids and adults. Sessions cover assessment, therapy, communication-device work, and the reports your plan reviewer needs. Bring your plan or plan manager's details when you book, and we coordinate with OT, the school, and the rest of the team so it reads as one piece of work.
